Indian Oil Sardines (Tarli) Fry

January 5, 2013 By Dipti Leave a Comment

This dish is a little tedious to make as it involves cleaning the Sardine (Tarli) fish. However, the taste is definitely worth the effort. Moreover, if you manage to get the fish cut and cleaned from the fish vendor then it is very easy to prepare this dish. Sardines contains various nutrients and are a large source of vitamin D. Do include this fish in your diet if it is easily available.

Equipment and Utensils

Frying pan

Flat wooden spoon

Large bowl

Flat dish

Ingredients

250 grams (6-7 pieces) Indian Oil Sardines (Tarli) Fish washed and cleaned

30 grams Semolina (Rava)

3 tablespoon Vegetable Oil

For marinade:

1 teaspoon Salt

2 teaspoon Red Chili Powder

½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Juice of 2 Lemon

Directions

Put all the ingredients listed under the marinade tag into a large bowl.

Mix well to make a smooth paste.

Now add fish pieces and coat them well with the paste.

Marinate for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Now put 1½ tablespoon oil in a frying pan.

Keep frying pan on medium high heat.

Take semolina in a flat dish.

Roll one piece of fish in it so that fish gets properly coated with semolina.

When oil is smoking hot, add this semolina coated fish piece in it.

Now roll the remaining pieces and add all of them into the hot oil.

Fry for 2 minutes, flip the fish to the other side.

Add remaining 1½ tablespoon oil if needed.

Fry both sides well till a golden-brown crisp coating is formed.

Serve hot with lemon wedges.
